Austin Family Wines – Harvester Cabernet Sauvignon Estrella

So I called up the Captain, “Please bring me my wine”. He said, “We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969”

Quick Thoughts

Sweet. Velvetty. Black Pepper on the front of my tongue. Luxardo Cherries. Tart on the back of the tongue.

Feelings at the moment: tasty, smells like red wine (duh). Sean is a donut with the Josh and Miimi situation. As of this post Uma and Wil, Yeah, its spelled like that… so dumb, are still together which is bananas considering how ridiculous their arc was this season considering Uma is an absolute queen compared to Wil.

Rambling Review

My wife has become fascinated with the Pasa Robles region of California. Our red wine selection has shifted to this region exclusively over the past few months and for good reason. The folks over in this tiny county in Southern-ish California are making the right amount of earthiness and the right amount of sweetness in their reds that make nearly any option we get from this area a knockout. Especially if it is from the Hope Family Wines. I was at a dinner with some colleagues and they handed me the wine list for a recommendation, and based on the Paso Robles reference I found the Austin Hope label. While pricey it was not snooty, I am getting ahead of myself as this is not a review of Austin Hope… but it could be in the future.

I will be straight-up honest with y’all… I tasted the Harvester months ago. I am older, wiser, and more susceptible to losing my notes over any tastings that I completed.

So you are writing up a review over a wine you can’t remember? “high praise” indeed…

Hey! Those notes at the very beginning are what I took down as we were tasting this while watching Love Island UK so you can bet that they are authentic!

If you are looking to break the mold and move away from your traditional cabs and pinots that are from more recognizable parts of CA or wherever you get your wine. The wifey and I say give this one a shot the next time you are at Total Wine. Take advantage of the Mix 6 to earn that $3 off. Gotta do what we can in this economy, right?

While we will tell you to splurge and try their Austin Hope label, this is an excellent option at $30 for your next binge-watching of Love Island UK, a raucous D&D session, or something to recommend at a fancy dinner to make folks think that you know wine well.

Cheers Y’all,
William
